«Die Sieben Letzten Worte Unseres Erlösers Am Kreuze» is the oratorio by Joseph Haydn performed by Nikolaus Harnoncourt leading the Arnold Schoenberg Chor and the Concentus Musicus Wien, released by Teldec on CD.
Religious work by Haydn that musically recreates the seven phrases Christ spoke on the cross, from forgiveness of the executioners to abandonment and the surrender of the spirit. Harnoncourt's version combines choir, orchestra and soloists in an expressive reading of the classic oratorio, with the Austrian conductor's recording originally made in 1992.
The original recording dates from 1992 and this CD belongs to Teldec's Das Alte Werk collection. The album includes contributions from soloists Nielsen, Hintermeier, Holl and Rolfe-Johnson.
