«Viola Concerto; Two Pictures» is the album by Béla Bartók with Hong-Mei Xiao and the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, released in 1998 by Naxos, on CD.
This CD brings together two versions of Bartók's Viola Concerto: the one revised by Peter Bartók and Paul Neubauer in 1995 and the one completed by Tibor Serly in 1949. It also includes Two Pictures, with «In Full Flower» and «Village Dance», and Serly's Rhapsody for viola and orchestra.
A 73-minute recording made at the Szt. István Conservatory in Budapest in April 1997. The cover reproduces the work «A XXI» by László Moholy-Nagy.
For fans of twentieth-century classical music and the viola repertoire; allows comparison of two versions of Bartók's concerto.
