In '14 de julio', Éric Vuillard narrates the unknown episodes of the outbreak of the French Revolution. Through a captivating account, the author tells us the story of those who were present at the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789: anonymous people driven by hunger and unrest. Vuillard goes back a few months to recount the rebellion of the workers of the Réveillon factories and stops to narrate how life was lived in the court of Versailles, showing the economic and social background that provoked the uprising. The author follows, hour by hour, how individuals without rights convulsed an archaic regime to give a new meaning to history, warning that telling history is a way of looking at the present.
