«39 escritores y medio» is a book of illustrated biographies by Jesús Marchamalo and Damián Flores, published by Siruela in hardcover (208 pages, in Spanish).
It brings together thirty-nine and a half portraits of Spanish and Latin American writers, each accompanied by its illustration. It collects curious anecdotes from their lives, such as Baroja gathering chestnuts in the Retiro, Valle-Inclán waking the king in the early hours, or the stone-throwing fight between Lezama Lima and Virgilio Piñera.
The portraits come from the «Rinconete» section of the Centro Virtual Cervantes; the work belongs to the Las Tres Edades collection (no. 140), with a prologue by César Antonio Molina.
Intended for young readers aged 12 and over and for those who enjoy the lives and anecdotes of writers.
