«42» is a science fiction novel by Thomas Lehr, published by Aufbau Verlag in hardcover (368 pages, in German).
A blend of science fiction and literary experiment: seventy visitors to CERN in Geneva fall into a temporal gap and the world stops around them. The work follows the reactions and transformations of the visitors as they experience a moment that stretches, and offers a reflection on time and human existence.
The book was published in 2005, carries the subtitle «Roman» and was nominated for the Deutscher Buchpreis that year.
A read for those interested in speculative fiction and contemporary German literature with a philosophical background.
