James Graham Ballard was an English novelist and short-story writer, satirist and essayist known for psychologically provocative works of fiction that explore the relations between human psychology, technology, sex and mass media. J. G. Ballard was born in Shanghai and spent his childhood in the city's International Settlement.
During World War II, he was interned with his family in a Japanese civilian center for two years.
Although he began medical studies at Cambridge, he abandoned them to dedicate himself entirely to writing.
His time in the Royal Air Force was where he discovered and began writing science fiction.
He is the author of iconic works such as Empire of the Sun, Crash, and The Drowned World.
