Jack Vance was a prolific American author who wrote hundreds of works spanning science fiction, fantasy, and mystery.
Before dedicating himself fully to literature, Vance worked in varied trades such as electrician and merchant seaman.
His most iconic work, The Dying Earth, is a fundamental pillar that helped define the dying earth subgenre.
The author used a wide variety of pseudonyms throughout his career, including the famous name Ellery Queen.
Born in San Francisco in 1916, his imagination brought complex worlds to life, such as those in the Lyonesse Trilogy.
