«A Comunidade» is the novel by Frank Ronan, published by Gradiva in paperback (232 pages, in Portuguese).
Coorg grows up in a sixties community with ideals of peace, the I Ching and a distant mother. Hailed at birth as the new messiah, the boy experiences the clash between an old world and a permissive new era. Frank Ronan narrates the search for acceptance of a boy who always ends up being the villain of the story, with social satire and contagious humor.
The original was published in English as «Home»; this Portuguese translation came out in 2002.
For readers with a command of Portuguese who appreciate social satire with humor about faith, community and the generational clash.
Frank Ronan is a novelist. He also writes a monthly column for Gardens Illustrated magazine. His novels have won numerous prizes including the 1989 Irish Times/Aer Lingus prize.
