«A Importância de Ser Earnest e Outras Peças» is a collection of plays by Oscar Wilde published by Relógio D'Água in paperback, in Portuguese.
The volume brings together four plays: 'O Leque de Lady Windermere', 'Uma Mulher sem Importância', 'Um Marido Ideal' and 'A Importância de Ser Earnest'. The pieces, with ironic dialogue and plot-driven situations, satirize Victorian morality, hypocrisy and the appearances of high society.
It corresponds to the Portuguese edition of the original English volume 'The Importance of Being Earnest and Other Plays'. The plays were first published between 1893 and 1899.
For readers of classic theatre and Victorian literature, interested in Oscar Wilde's social satire.

Oscar Fingal O'Fflahertie Wills Wilde was an Irish author, poet and playwright. After writing in different literary styles throughout the 1880s, he became one of the most popular and influential dramatists in London in the early 1890s. He was a key figure in the emerging Aestheticism movement of the late 19th century and is widely regarded as the greatest playwright of the Victorian era. Wilde is best known for his Gothic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), his epigrams, plays and bedtime stories for children, as well as his criminal conviction in 1895 for gross indecency and for practicing homosexual acts.
