«A Midsummer Night's Dream» is Andrew Matthews's adaptation of Shakespeare's comedy, published by Orchard in paperback (64 pages, in English).
Four young Athenians —Hermia, Helena, Demetrius and Lysander— enter a wood where the quarrels between Oberon and Titania, king and queen of the fairies, and the mischief of the sprite Puck tangle their loves with comic consequences. The narrative brings Shakespeare's romantic comedy closer to young readers and includes notes on the author and the Globe Theatre.
It belongs to the Shakespeare Stories series, with illustrations by Tony Ross; the text previously appeared in the collection The Orchard Book of Shakespeare Stories (2001).
Suitable for a first introduction to Shakespeare and for school use as an initial reading of the author.
Andrew Matthews is an Australian speaker and author known for his numerous self help books.
