«Agora non, Bernardo» is the children's picture book by David McKee, published by Kalandraka in hardcover (32 pages, in Galician).
Bernardo tells his parents there is a monster in the garden ready to eat him, but they are too busy and only reply «now not, Bernardo». This unsettling story with absurd humor portrays the loneliness of a child who gets no attention and calls on adults to attend to the emotional needs of childhood.
It is a classic from 1980; the 2019 edition features a translation by Xosé Manuel González Barreiro and belongs to the collection «tras os montes».
For early readers and also for the adults who accompany them, as a starting point for talking about attention to children.
David John McKee, was a British writer and illustrator, chiefly of children's books and animations.
