«Aigua bruta» is the crime novel by Pau Vidal Gavilan, published by Editorial Empúries in paperback (192 pages, in Catalan).
Camil, a linguist collecting slang for the Academy of Catalan Studies, hides a secret project: updating Joan Coromines's etymological dictionary. Traveling through villages on a motorcycle, chance leads him to a dead hiker, a polluted river, a missing scientist and a not-so-transparent pharmacist. The investigation takes him from the Pyrenees to the Llobregat delta, following the water cycle through aquifers, springs and discharges, with pharmaceutical waste as a backdrop.
It belongs to the Empúries Narrativa collection. It was published on January 19, 2007 and won the 2006 Premi de Literatura Científica.
For readers of crime fiction with linguistic intrigue and an interest in environmental pollution.
