«Amphitryon» is the theatrical comedy by Molière, published by Bordas in paperback (199 pages, in French).
Jupiter falls in love with Alcmena and, to seduce her, adopts the figure of her husband, the general Amphitryon; at the same time, Mercury impersonates the servant Sosie. The return of the real ones triggers misunderstandings, identity confusions and a stage play between gods and mortals that combines farce, fantasy and comedy of intrigue.
It belongs to the Classiques Bordas collection (Univers des Lettres Bordas series); includes the complete annotated text, biography of Molière, study of contexts and themes, and analysis questionnaires.
School edition, aimed at secondary and high school students in France and readers interested in classical French theater.
Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name Molière, was a French playwright, actor, and poet, widely regarded as one of the great writers in the French language and world literature. His extant works include comedies, farces, tragicomedies, comédie-ballets, and more. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today. His influence is such that the French language is often referred to as the "language of Molière".
