«Anno 1074. Der Aufstand gegen den Kölner Erzbischof» is the historical novel by Jörg Kastner, published by Lübbe in paperback (517 pages, in German).
In 1074, Archbishop Anno of Cologne, one of the most powerful men in the Holy Roman Empire, imprisons a merchant on unjust pretexts. Popular indignation triggers a revolt; Anno takes refuge in the cathedral and flees to Neuss, where he gathers forces to suppress it. Kastner recreates these historical events and offers a panorama of the era.
The original edition was published on July 1, 1998; the work is set in medieval Cologne and is based on documented historical events.
