Ardiente paciencia, también conocida como El cartero de Neruda, es una novela del escritor chileno Antonio Skármeta publicada en 1985. La historia se centra en Mario Jiménez, un joven que se convierte en el cartero personal de Pablo Neruda en Isla Negra. A través de su relación con el poeta, Mario descubre el poder de las palabras y la belleza de la poesía, mientras intenta conquistar a Beatriz, la mujer de sus sueños. La novela explora temas como el amor, la amistad, la política y el arte, todo ello en el contexto del Chile de principios de los años setenta.

Esteban Antonio Skármeta Vranicic was a Chilean writer, screenwriter, and director. His novel Ardiente paciencia was the basis for the film Il Postino. In Chile, he was popularly known for hosting a television show on literature and the arts. He served as Chile's ambassador to Germany from 2000 to 2003. In 2014, he was awarded the Chilean National Literature Prize.
