«La boda del poeta» is the novel by Antonio Skármeta, published by ARETE in hardcover (312 pages, in Spanish).
The Austrian banker Jerónimo Frank, rich and bohemian, settles on an island in the Adriatic, reopens the shop El Europeo, and becomes engaged to Alia Emar. The wedding, announced as spectacular, clashes with legends and political tensions; the novel blends love, intrigue, and humor and connects with emigrants who arrived in Chile at the beginning of the 20th century.
Work awarded the Prix Médicis étranger (2001) and the Altazor Prize for Narrative (2000), and nominated for the Grinzane Cavour Prize.
For readers of contemporary fiction and Latin American narrative interested in love, emigration, and historical background.
