«As fiandeiras» is the novel by Antonio Piñeiro, published by Editorial Galaxia in paperback (108 pages, in Galician).
Set in A Estrada during the cantonal insurrections of the late 19th century, it tells the story of a group of fiandeiras who live from artisanal spinning and whose way of life clashes with the interests of industry and power. Around that resistance, an affective triangle is drawn between a young woman, her teacher and a brave woman, while an inquisitorial plot tries to subdue them. The work invites us to rethink the role of women in the advance of progress.
It belongs to the Literaria collection of Editorial Galaxia, number 304, and won the García Barros Prize 2011.
For readers of historical fiction and Galician novels who value choral plots with female protagonists and social background.
