«Aventuras, inventos y mixtificaciones de Silvestre Paradox» is the novel by Pío Baroja published by Espasa in paperback (353 pages, in Spanish).
The novel follows Silvestre Paradox, a character half naive and half rogue, son of a naturalist, fond of stuffing animals and building inventions such as a restorative bread or a finned submarine. After a wandering life he settles in Madrid, where his oddities and dealings with other eccentric types form a gallery of characters that enlivens the work.
Originally published in 1901, it is the first installment of Pío Baroja's series «La vida fantástica».
