Synopsis of Barkskins
En el siglo XVII, dos jóvenes franceses, René Sel y Charles Duquet, llegan a Nueva Francia en busca de una vida mejor. Atados a un señor feudal durante tres años a cambio de tierras, se convierten en cortadores de madera, conocidos como 'barkskins'. René sufre penurias extraordinarias, oprimido por el bosque que debe despejar. Se ve obligado a casarse con una mujer Mikmaw, y sus descendientes viven atrapados entre dos culturas enemigas. Mientras tanto, Duquet, astuto y despiadado, huye del señor y se convierte en comerciante de pieles, estableciendo un negocio maderero.
