«Bella en las tinieblas» is the novel by Manuel de Lope, published by Alfaguara in paperback (403 pages, in Spanish).
A woman with a brilliant past in postwar Madrid unknowingly awakens the love of a young man in a village on the Cantabrian coast. Around the death of a general and his inheritance, several characters cross paths. The oceanic landscape envelops an ambitious plot, loosely inspired by real events, reminiscent of Madame Bovary.
First published in 1997, it belongs to Alfaguara's Hispánica collection.
