«Bihotz bi: Gerrako kronikak» is the novel by Ramon Saizarbitoria, published by Erein Argitaletxea in paperback (288 pages, in Basque).
The novel interweaves two stories: the life of a married couple, told from the husband's point of view, and the chronicles of the Spanish Civil War that elderly men recount in a bar. With irony and tenderness, Saizarbitoria portrays the wear and tear of the couple, arguments over trifles and the difficulty of saying what matters.
Number 2 in the Narratiba collection. Winner of the Euskadi Literature Prize, dissemination category, in 1997.
For readers of contemporary fiction and Basque literature, particularly those seeking an ironic look at couple relationships.
Ramon Saizarbitoria is a contemporary Basque writer and sociologist.
