«Boum» is the young adult novel by Malika Ferdjoukh, published by L'Ecole des Loisirs in paperback (128 pages, in French).
Celestino, now an adult, sees a young woman trying to steal gold lighters in a bookstore and relives the summer when he was fifteen. Back then he spent the summer with his grandmother on the island of Vulcano, in the Aeolian Islands; in the area called the Valley of the Monsters he crossed paths with a foreign boy, badly dressed and carrying an enormous suitcase. That encounter marked him forever.
Originally published in 2005, it belongs to the Médium collection from L'Ecole des Loisirs, aimed at young readers.
Recommended for readers aged 12 and up, especially for those looking for stories of summer, friendship and memories that leave a mark.
