«Breu història del món» is the historical essay by Ernst H. Gombrich, published by labutxaca in paperback (400 pages, in Catalan).
It covers universal history from the origins of humanity to the twentieth century in a direct, engaging, almost novelistic style. Gombrich surveys the great civilizations, from Mesopotamia to the Chinese Empire, and moments such as the Renaissance or the atomic age, with anecdotes and interpretations that make the past comprehensible.
Translation by Judith Vilar Roca of a work originally published in 1936. This edition, revised by Gombrich, includes new illustrations.
Originally written for young readers, it also serves as an accessible introduction to universal history.
Sir Ernst Hans Josef Gombrich was an Austrian-born art historian who, after settling in England in 1936, became a naturalised British citizen in 1947 and spent most of his working life in the United Kingdom.
