«Cañas y barro» is the realist novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, published by Alianza in paperback (275 pages, in Spanish).
The story is set in the Valencian Albufera and follows three generations of the Palomas family, dedicated to fishing and rice cultivation. The grandfather is a respected fisherman of the lake; his son Tono insists on gaining ground from the water by hauling earth in his boat; the grandson Tonet, however, shuns that effort and ends up bringing dishonor to the clan. As a backdrop, the social tensions of late 19th-century Spain appear, along with a love triangle that Tonet rekindles upon returning to El Palmar after four years of absence.
Novel originally published in 1902. It belonged to Alianza's El Libro de Bolsillo collection, within its Biblioteca Blasco Ibáñez.
Recommended for readers of classic Spanish fiction and costumbrista tales with a strong presence of landscape and social drama.

Novelista y político valenciano, autor de La barraca, Cañas y barro y Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis, gran superventas internacional de su tiempo.
