«Chart Throb» is Ben Elton's satirical novel about television talent shows, published by Black Swan in paperback (416 pages, in English).
Set in the world of British television talent programs, the novel follows Colin Simms, the creator and star judge of a contest he himself controls. Ninety-five thousand hopefuls, three judges and a single planned winner: the plot unravels when the rules of the game begin to change and real television seeps into the format. Ben Elton satirizes the entertainment industry and the culture of reality shows behind the scenes.
Work by the author of Popcorn and Dead Famous, it was a bestseller according to The Sunday Times; this edition corresponds to the original 2007 publication in the UK.
Recommended for readers who enjoy satire and British humor about television and fame, especially if they know talent contests like Pop Idol or The X Factor.
