«The Blind Assassin» is the novel by Margaret Atwood, published by Virago Press in paperback (656 pages, in English).
Octogenarian and ruined, Iris Chase evokes her youth and the tragic death of her sister Laura. The narrative intersects with the eponymous novel Laura left published: a science fiction story that two clandestine lovers invent in their encounters and that hides family secrets. Love, betrayal and memory intertwine in this framed fiction.
Winner of the Booker Prize 2000 and the Hammett Prize that same year, it was also a finalist for the Orange Prize in 2001.
For those seeking contemporary literary fiction with a layered narrative structure; it is a common read in book clubs.
