A man wakes up on a desert plain without remembering his identity; only the word «soldado» tells him something about himself. A stranger invites him to cross the river and, in their encounters, he rescues from oblivion his childhood in Morocco, his father, his teenage love, his military career and his family, while he is offered the chance to escape pain and memory.
The novel won the Premio Nadal in 1992 and belongs to the Áncora y Delfín collection (number 683) of Ediciones Destino.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and for those interested in novels about memory, identity and reconstruction of the past.
