In 'Civilization: The West and the Rest', Niall Ferguson explores the reasons behind Western dominance in the last five hundred years. He identifies six 'killer apps'—competition, science, property rights, medicine, consumerism, and the work ethic—that allowed the West to surpass the rest of the world. The author questions whether the West still possesses these tools or if we are witnessing the end of its hegemony. A provocative analysis of the history and future of Western civilization.
