Synopsis of Comandante

El 28 de septiembre de 1940, el submarino Cappellini de la armada fascista italiana zarpó del puerto de La Spezia hacia el Atlántico, vía Gibraltar. Al mando estaba el veterano comandante Salvatore Todaro. Durante su misión, avistaron un barco belga, el Kabalo. Se produjo un combate naval y el submarino hundió el barco enemigo. Después de un tiempo, vieron aparecer a varios miembros de la tripulación supervivientes. A pesar de que el almirante alemán Dönitz ordenó explícitamente que no fueran rescatados, Todaro decidió contravenir a sus superiores y priorizar, por encima de las regulaciones militares, la ley del mar, que dice que los náufragos deben ser rescatados. Su gesto lo convierte en un héroe que conecta el pasado con nuestro presente. Sandro Veronesi y el cineasta Edoardo De Angelis han colaborado en el guion de su próxima película, sobre la figura de Todaro, y en paralelo han escrito esta versión novelada a cuatro manos, construida a través de una sucesión de voces que relatan el noble gesto del comandante.
