«Conjura en Nueva España» is the historical novel by José Garrido Palacios, published by Editorial Adarve in paperback (258 pages, in Spanish).
In 1542, the New Laws pit the Crown against the conquistadors and spark a rebellion to preserve the encomiendas. Martín and Luis Cortés, sons of Hernán Cortés, and the Ávila brothers lead the conspiracy. The novel explores whether it was real and weaves together the life of Hernán Cortés with his wives and children, the Spanish monarchy, and the indigenous peoples.
