«Contra las patrias» is the philosophical essay by Fernando Savater, published by Editorial Ariel in paperback (328 pages, in Spanish).
Savater criticizes identity nationalism and patriotic symbols that fuel collective violence and imposed unanimities. He champions cosmopolitanism, the freedom of languages and a tradition reinterpreted by each creator. In this updated edition, he recovers Democritus's idea that the wise man's homeland is the whole world.
Work originally published in 1984; this edition is from 2017 and belongs to the Biblioteca Fernando Savater collection.
For readers interested in political philosophy and the debate on nationalism, identity and cosmopolitanism.
