«Coronación» is José Donoso's first novel, published by Seix Barral in paperback, 272 pages, in Spanish.
Andrés, a lonely fifty-year-old man, witnesses the last days of his ninety-year-old grandmother, lost in dementia. The novel portrays the decline of an aristocratic Chilean family and anticipates themes of identity, transgression, and madness, in a grotesque and realistic tone.
Originally published in 1957, this Spanish edition belongs to the Biblioteca de Bolsillo collection.
For readers of Chilean fiction and Latin American literary classics, as well as for those studying the work of José Donoso.

José Manuel Donoso Yáñez, was a Chilean writer, journalist and professor. He lived most of his life in Chile, although he spent many years in self-imposed exile in Mexico, the United States and Spain. Although he stated that he had left Chile in the 1960s for personal reasons, after 1973 his exile was also a form of protest against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. He returned to Chile in 1981 and lived there until his death in 1996.
