«Cris» is Laurent Gaudé's war novel, published by LGF/Le Livre de Poche in paperback (181 pages, in French).
A group of soldiers shares daily life in the trenches of the First World War: fear, mud, assaults and the fraternity that grows among them. While a gassed soldier lies dying in no man's land, the cry of a comrade lost between the lines becomes an obsessive echo that also haunts Jules, on leave behind the lines.
The novel was originally published in 2001 and won the Prix Atout Lire de la ville de Cherbourg-Octeville. This Le Livre de Poche edition, number 30420, appeared on October 19, 2005.
A read for an adult audience interested in historical fiction and contemporary French literature.
