«Cuentos» is Mario Benedetti's own selection of his short stories, published by Alianza in paperback (424 pages, in Spanish).
Benedetti brings together 35 stories chosen by himself, set in urban Montevideo. Their protagonists are the capital's lower middle class: office workers, bank employees and shopkeepers leading unremarkable lives. With irony and a sober style, he turns these routines marked by narrow means into a portrait of contemporary society.
Expanded and updated edition, volume 77 of the Biblioteca Benedetti collection, within the Bibliotecas de Autor of Alianza's El Libro de Bolsillo.
For readers of short fiction and Latin American narrative who want a representative sample of Benedetti's work.
