«David Golder» is the novel by Irène Némirovsky, published by FisicalBook in paperback (190 pages, in Spanish).
David Golder is a Jewish financier who has amassed a great fortune without scruples and lives surrounded by people who fear and hate him. Ill and betrayed, when his bank is on the brink of ruin, he undertakes a final struggle to rebuild his empire for his daughter Joyce, a frivolous and spendthrift young woman about whom he has no illusions.
Originally published in 1929, it was the first novel by Irène Némirovsky, a writer of Russian origin who died in Auschwitz in 1942. Translation by Javier Albiñana.
Recommended for readers of classics of twentieth-century French literature and for those seeking novels with characters of great dramatic force.

Irène Némirovsky was a novelist of Ukrainian Jewish origin who was born in Kiev, then in the Russian Empire. She lived more than half her life in France and wrote in French, but was denied French nationality. Arrested as a Jew under the racial laws – which did not take into account her conversion to Roman Catholicism – she died in Auschwitz at the age of 39. Némirovsky is best known for the posthumously published Suite française.
