«De Amerikaanse prinses» is the biography that Annejet van der Zijl devoted to Allene Tew, published by Querido in hardcover (278 pages, in Dutch).
It reconstructs the life of Allene Tew (1872-1955), an American who became one of the richest women of her time and who, after losing almost everything, set sail for Europe in 1927. Her relationship with Prince Bernhard brought her close to the Dutch royal family. The narrative spans two world wars, stock market crashes and revolutions.
Published in 2015, the Dutch edition includes a bibliography and index. In 2016 it was nominated for the Publieksprijs voor het Nederlandse Boek and the Libris Geschiedenis Prijs.
Recommended for readers of historical biographies, interested in high society, the twentieth century and the Dutch monarchy.
