«De mecánica y alquimia» is the short story collection by Juan Jacinto Muñoz Rengel, published by Salto de Página in paperback (160 pages, in Spanish).
The eleven stories in the volume range from the investigation of an enigma in Muslim Toledo to the construction of the Prague clock, and from the apocalyptic visions of an alchemist's assistant to the futuristic fictions of a writer in Victorian London. Clepsydras, golems, automatons and mechanical birds intertwine through time in stories that ultimately reveal their mystery.
The title belongs to the Colección Púrpura, where it occupies number 19 in the series. The cover reproduces a detail of the famous Prague clock, a central image in one of the stories, and was taken by the author himself.
Recommended for readers of short fiction who appreciate speculative fiction, historical legends and unsettling atmospheres.
