«De profundis» is Oscar Wilde's epistolary work, published by Mondadori in 2003 in paperback, with 208 pages, in Italian.
Written in 1897 from Reading Prison and addressed to Lord Alfred Douglas, the work blends the personal letter, confession and self-examination. Wilde reviews his relationship with Bosie, his career, his faith and his downfall, and confronts the hypocrisies of his era by arguing that extreme pain can be transformed into artistic creation.
Edition from the Oscar classici collection, with a translation by Oreste Del Buono and an additional essay by André Gide.
For readers of epistolary literature and memoirs, and for those who want to approach Oscar Wilde from an intimate and personal perspective.

Oscar Fingal O'Fflahertie Wills Wilde was an Irish author, poet and playwright. After writing in different literary styles throughout the 1880s, he became one of the most popular and influential dramatists in London in the early 1890s. He was a key figure in the emerging Aestheticism movement of the late 19th century and is widely regarded as the greatest playwright of the Victorian era. Wilde is best known for his Gothic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890), his epigrams, plays and bedtime stories for children, as well as his criminal conviction in 1895 for gross indecency and for practicing homosexual acts.
