Alicia Bjelke is a young woman whose face was so disfigured in a childhood accident that she prefers not to show it. This has not affected her entrepreneurial spirit; she is the technical genius behind a groundbreaking dating app that she plans to launch with her sister Stella. Until one day, Stella is found dead with a stab wound to her neck and her face also disfigured. Alicia realizes she could be the next victim. The murder of Stella is investigated by John Adderley, a detective and former FBI agent living under a new identity in Karlstad. After a failed infiltration into a drug cartel in the US, he must constantly look over his shoulder in Sweden as well. It soon becomes clear that this murder investigation gives him an unexpected chance to deal with his past.
