«Der brennende Ofen» is the mystery novel by Kerstin Ekman, published by Btb Bei Goldmann in paperback (224 pages, in German).
In a church in a Swedish village, valuable frescoes are discovered, and the find disrupts the apparent rural calm: disputes arise, arson fires, and deaths. David Malm, a restorer with artistic leanings, finds himself at the center of suspicion as he tries to understand what the community hides between art and danger.
The work was originally published in Swedish in 1962 under the title Den brinnande ugnen; the present German edition is from 1999.
For those who enjoy Scandinavian crime fiction with a rural setting and artistic background.
