«Der Sandmann / Das Ode Haus» is the volume of two tales by E. T. A. Hoffmann published by Reclam in paperback (74 pages, in German).
The volume brings together two tales of late Romanticism. In 'Der Sandmann', the student Nathanael is haunted by the fears of his childhood, linked to the sinister figure of the sandman, in an atmosphere that mixes the everyday with the fantastic and delves into paranoia and identity.
This edition from Reclams Universal-Bibliothek (No. 230) includes 'Der Sandmann' as the first instalment of the Nachtstücke series, edited by Rudolf Drux with bibliographical references.
A work for school reading in German, used to prepare for the Abitur, and suitable for readers interested in Romanticism and psychological horror.
