«Der Schattentänzer» is the young adult novel by Paula Fox, published by Rowohlt in paperback (152 pages, in German).
The novel focuses on the relationship between a father and his son and on the construction of a paternal image full of scars. From that coexistence, the plot addresses identity and acceptance within the framework of family bonds.
The edition is from 1991, published under Rowohlt's rororo imprint, and its cover bears the subtitle «Vaterbild mit Schrammen».
It is recommended for young people aged 13 and up, especially for readers interested in novels about parent-child relationships.

Paula Fox was an American author of novels for adults and children and of two memoirs. Fox won the Newbery Medal in 1974 for her novel The Slave Dancer. She also won the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1978 and won a 1983 National Book Award in category Children's Fiction (paperback) for A Place Apart. In the mid-1990s, she enjoyed a revival as her adult fiction was championed by a new generation of American writers. In 2011, she was inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame.
