«Der Tänzer» is the literary fiction novel by Colum McCann, published by Rowohlt TB. in hardcover (473 pages, in German).
Novel inspired by the life of Rudolf Nureyev, a Soviet dancer who became an international legend. McCann reconstructs his career through the voices of those who knew him: his first ballet teacher, a woman marked by her marriage, a Venezuelan friend and other figures from his circle, from the Soviet Union to the New York of the 1980s. A choral look at talent, freedom and the price of a life devoted to art.
German edition, translated from the original «Dancer» by Dirk van Gunsteren. The work was recognized with the Irish Book Award in the Hughes & Hughes Irish Novel of the Year category in 2004.
Recommended for readers of literary fiction and historical novels seeking an intimate, polyphonic approach to the figure of a great ballet star.
