«Días contados» is the crime novel by Juan Madrid, published by Verticales de Bolsillo in 2008 in paperback (264 pages, in Spanish).
A photographer living in the Malasaña neighborhood of Madrid is commissioned to prepare a guide on the movida for a public body, a job that could bring him out of anonymity. As he gets involved with two young drug-addicted neighbors, he enters a reality of misery and exploitation that contrasts with the myth of those years, and from which an unexpected love story emerges.
Originally published in 1993, the novel is part of the Literaria collection and was adapted into a movie directed by Imanol Uribe.
Readers interested in urban crime fiction and the less glamorous side of the Madrid movida.
