«Dr. Katzenbergers Badereise» is Jean Paul's satirical tale, published by Reclam Philipp Jun. in paperback (212 pages, in German).
Doctor Katzenberger is a miserly, eccentric researcher of malformations who travels to take revenge on a critic who has questioned his erudition. Jean Paul narrates with humor a story that moves between the idyllic and the metaphysical, and the humane, mocking tone restores balance in the face of the anomalous.
This 1986 edition is part of Reclam's Universal-Bibliothek (no. 18) and includes annotations by Max Meier and an epilogue by Otto Mann.
It appeals to students and readers of classical German literature, and is used as school reading in German classes.
