«El agente secreto» is Joseph Conrad's novel of intrigue and espionage, published by Ediciones Cátedra in the Letras Universales collection, in paperback (368 pages, in Spanish).
Set in late nineteenth-century London, the work follows Adolf Verloc, an agent who collaborates with a foreign embassy while moving among anarchists and conspiracies. A commission to attack the Greenwich Observatory triggers a plot of bombs, police investigations, murder and suicide in which opposing moral perspectives and notable irony intertwine.
The story is set in 1886 and was originally published in 1907 as «The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale». This edition includes introduction, translation and notes by Dámaso López García.
Recommended for readers of literary classics and novels of espionage, terrorism and social criticism from the late nineteenth century.
