Synopsis of El alcalde de Zalamea

El alcalde de Zalamea es una obra de teatro del escritor español Pedro Calderón de la Barca, perteneciente al ciclo de comedias históricas y legendarias del autor. La historia se desarrolla durante la guerra con Portugal, cuando las tropas españolas se detienen en Zalamea. El capitán don Álvaro de Ataide se hospeda en la casa de Pedro Crespo, un labrador rico, y seduce a su hija Isabel. Pedro Crespo, para remediar el deshonor, ofrece bienes a don Álvaro para que se case con Isabel, pero este se niega. Pedro es elegido alcalde de Zalamea y decide ejecutar a don Álvaro. Al final, el rey Felipe II ratifica la decisión de Pedro y lo nombra alcalde perpetuo de Zalamea.
