«El anacronópete» is the science fiction novel by Enrique Gaspar, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (221 pages, in Spanish).
«El anacronópete» already proposed a time machine in 1887, before H. G. Wells's. The novel narrates the adventures of an expedition that travels aboard the anacronópete, an invention that allows going back in time: they visit the Paris Commune, third-century BC China, the last day of Pompeii and the Universal Flood, in a plot with adventure, love, jealousy and humor.
The original work dates from 1887. This edition by Círculo de Lectores, published in 2000, includes illustrations by Francesc Soler.
For readers interested in the origins of science fiction, fantastic literature and nineteenth-century Spanish narrative.
