«El azul del infierno» is the unpublished and unfinished narrative by Carlos Barral, published by Seix Barral in 2009 in the Únicos collection (115 pages, in Spanish).
In November 1989 Carlos Barral began writing this narrative inspired by the painting The Crossing of the River Styx by Joachim Patinir, on display at the Museo del Prado. His death left the story unfinished; this volume recovers it along with his diary entries up to December 5, 1989, and shows the literary creative process.
This edition includes preliminary words by Mario Vargas Llosa, an epilogue by Malcolm Otero Barral, and a facsimile reproduction of the author's notes, with an illustration by Barral himself.

Carlos Barral i Agesta (1928–1989) was a Spanish poet, considered to be one of the greatest poets of the so-called generation of the 1950s. He helped to establish the Formentor Group and their literary awards the Prix Formentor and the Prix International. He was also a member of the European Parliament and an important publisher.
