After an atomic holocaust, Gordon Krantz, a vagabond with nothing, adopts the uniform of a dead postman to protect himself from the cold. His arrival in a town makes people believe in a Restored United States: the postal service seems to herald the rebirth of social organization. Gordon must sustain that lie, turned into a symbol of hope.
The translation from English is by Francisco Giménez Ardana. The original work, The Postman, published in 1985, won the Locus Award and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award.
